THE FIRST STEP
Contacting Your Moving Company

The earlier notice you can give your moving company, the better. At least four to six weeks notice is recommended in order for us to be able to better meet your preferred moving dates.
We'll do our best to comply with your requested moving dates, however an alternate pick-up and delivery date may be requested in case a van is not available on your preferred date.
You will be notified well in advance as to when the van will come to load your goods and when your shipment will be delivered to its destination.
In the event of critical moving dates, due to such things as new owners moving in or lease expiration, you can discuss specific pickup and delivery requirements with your Covan agent. He can advise you of what guaranteed service is available and any costs that may be involved.

THE COST
Figuring The Expense Of Your Move

The cost of your move is determined by the weight of your goods, the distance they are moved and any other additional services that you may request (such as packing, unpacking, storage, etc.) These charges are based on "Tariff" rates. A tariff is the "price list" used by moving companies who provide interstate transportation of household goods. The tariff includes all the various services offered by the moving company. Tariffs are available for public review by contacting the Company's general offices.
ESTIMATES
At your request, your Covan agent will be glad to make a free, pre-move survey of the household goods that you plan to move in order to arrive at an estimated cost of your relocation. This will be only an estimate however, not a guarantee that the actual charges will not exceed the amount of the estimate. Exact charges for transportation and accessorial services will be based on the actual weight or volume transported, actual materials furnished and actual services performed. The exact charges cannot be determined prior to the time the services are performed and the goods are loaded on the van.
BINDING ESTIMATES
If you prefer, your Covan agent can provide a Binding Estimate which will be binding on the carrier, and as such, will represent the exact charge that will be assessed for the quantities and services made known to the mover's representative by the shipper at time of its preparation. Should actual quantities and services change from those originally anticipated by the customers, and reflected in the estimate and table of measurements, the mover and the customer may amend the estimate anytime prior to completion of loading. In the event additional services are required and provided, the cost of those services will be in addition to the amount shown on the original estimate. Your Covan agent can provide more information about this type of estimate at your request.

THE PAYMENT
When and How To Pay

According to Tariff regulations, you are required to pay all charges before your shipment is unloaded at destination. Credit terms may be extended to corporate accounts with prior approval.
Payment may be made with cash, postal money order, cashier's or certified check or approved Discover, MasterCard or Visa.
If your moving costs exceed your non-binding estimate, you will not be required to pay more than 110% of the estimated cost at the time of delivery. Your shipment charges will be audited and any amount over 110% of the estimated charges will be billed to you with terms of 30 days after delivery.

LOSS & DAMAGE PROTECTION
Choosing Your Valuation Option

You are covered against loss or damage to your goods but the amount of protection is your choice. Your options include: Basic Value (Released Rate) at .60 per pound per article; or Full Value (FVP) to be released at a value equal to or exceeding $3.50 per pound, subject to a minimum of $10,000.00 per shipment. The option that you choose will determine Covan's maximum liability to you in the event of any loss or damage during the move. Valuation is not insurance but a tariff level of motor carrier liability.
Check with your Covan agent for more details on your Valuation Options.

TEMPORARY STORAGE
An Optional Service That's Available

If you are unable to take immediate possession of your goods after they are picked up, they can be safely stored in a Covan agent's warehouse for a reasonable rate until you are ready for them. While your goods are in storage, Covan will have the same liabilities/responsibilities and will provide the same protection coverage as while they are in transit.
If you request storage service, you will be responsible for all storage charges, warehouse handling and final delivery charges.

Keeping Your Belongings Clean

Items that may need special care during handling or storage are individually wrapped with our Sani-Shield wrapping film. All vans and storage facilities are kept clean to prevent mildew. We want each item delivered in exactly the same condition as when it was loaded on our vans.
